TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

That's a good way to get donations.

Dave seems to want to keep this controversy going.

The loser in all this is the school, which is caught in the middle of the controversy.

The Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. was supposed to name its theater after the comedian earlier this month, but the event was postponed when students threatened to walk out in protest.

On Friday, Dave wrote on Instagram that he intends to attend the naming ceremony in April. "If you object to my receiving this honor, I urge you to donate to the school noting your objection. If you are in favor of the theater being named ‘Chappelle’, I urge you to donate to the school, noting your approval."

He added that “whichever opinion donates the highest collective dollar amount, wins. If by April, those against the ‘Chappelle’ theater exceed the donations of those who are neutral or in favor of the theater being named ‘Chappelle,’ I will gladly [step] aside. If not, I will happily attend the naming ceremony. And if you don’t care enough to donate… please shut ... up, forever.”

The controversy stems from the comedian's latest Netflix special, The Closer, which contained jokes some people have deemed transphobic.
